Mahout Hotel Luang Prabag
Situated on the banks of the Nam Khan river, a tributary of the mighty Mekong, just 7 kilometres from the centre of Luang Prabang, the Mahout Hotel and Elephant Camp offers comfortable accommodation in pristine nature. Embraced by lush indigenous forest, the hotel overlooks the Nam Khan as it meanders past the village of Ban Noun, against a backdrop of jungle covered mountains. The setting is utterly beautiful and peaceful.
Then of course there are elephants. These majestic animals once roamed wild in Laos in their thousands to the extent that the country was called the Land of a Million Elephants. They are highly revered in Lao culture. At the water’s edge The All Lao Elephant Camp is home to 16 Asian elephants. Here guests can observe Elephants up close, take part in feeding and bathing them and exploring some 50 hectares around the property, on one of the Camp’s Mahout Elephant training courses.
So while providing an oasis of comfort The Mahout Hotel offers the opportunity to experience elephants first hand as well as the perfect base from which to explore surrounding forests and ethnic villages, the Nam Khan River or Luang Prabang itself, be it from an elephant’s Howdah, by boat, on foot or from the luxury of one’s own vehicle.
